February 26 (SeeNews) - Telekom Romania Mobile, an indirect subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, said on Monday its total revenue decreased by 6.4% to 286.9 million euro ($311.2 million) in 2023, mainly impacted by the halving of interconnection revenues and the discontinuation of its mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) business.
The company's adjusted EBITDA decreased to 17 million euro in 2023 due to higher energy prices, the termination of MVNO operations and the effect of customer-retention activities, Telekom Romania Mobile said in a press release.
In 2022, the telco’s EBITDA amounted to 38 million euro, according to previously disclosed data.
The customer base of Telekom Romania Mobile decreased to 3.8 million subscribers at the end of 2023 due to a reduction in prepaid subscribers. The company tallied 4.16 million customers at the end of 2022, it said in a press release last year.
In the fourth quarter alone, Telekom Romania Mobile’s total revenue increased by 6.2% year-on-year to 77.5 million euro.
The company broadened its 5G network coverage last year, providing access to this technology to users from thirteen cities.
In 2021, Greece's Hellenic Telecommunications Organization (OTE) purchased Telekom Mobile Romania from its then parent company, Telekom Communications Romania. OTE's majority shareholder is Deutsche Telekom, with a 52.8% stake.
