April 25 (SeeNews) - Romanian restaurant chain Spartan said it has booked a turnover of 50 million euro ($53.4 million) in 2023 and is gearing up for expansion both at home and abroad.
Spartan, which operates 75 locations in Romania and caters to over 7 million customers annually with its Greek-inspired food, is set to establish up to 50 new outlets in strategic locations across Romania, it said in a press release on Wednesday, without disclosing financial details of its investment plans.
Also, Spartan aims to extend its franchise model to Spain, where it already owns two restaurants.
"We aim to consolidate Spartan's position in the top 3 restaurants of its kind in Romania, and furthermore, we aim to advance to 2nd place this year," said Gabriel Melniciuc, CEO of Spartan.
The Spartan brand was established in 2012 and is wholly owned by domestic capital. Initially it was owned by Strong MND Corporation, a company whose CEO was Stefan Mandachi, the founder of Spartan, local media outlet Mediafax reported in 2023.
In 2023, Remus Cosovanu, Spartan's initial franchise investor with a 30% restaurant share, along with Razvan Nanus, director general of Rerum Food, acquired Strong MND Corporation, including the Spartan brand, as per the press release. The value of the transaction was of 20.3 million euro, according to local media reports.
