May 13 (SeeNews) - Romania's opposition Liberal Party (PNL) and governing Social Democrat Party (PSD) would win the most votes if the European Parliament elections in the country were held now, poll results showed on Monday.
Of all Romanians who have made up their mind how they will vote, representing 63.1% of the poll sample, some 27.6% intend to back the PNL and 25.5% will support the PSD, according to the results of a survey conducted by INSCOP Research for the Romanian Academy.
In the previous poll conducted by INSCOP in March, PSD was first, followed by PNL.
The 2020 Alliance comprising the Union Save Romania USR and PLUS Party would get 16.5% of all votes, while the junior partner in the PSD-led government coalition, the Liberal-Democrat Alliance (ALDE), would win 9.2%.
Pro Romania party would garner 9.1% support, while the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) would get 4.8%.
Some 39.2% of the respondents in the latest poll said they will certainly vote in the May 26 elections for members of the European Parliament (MEPs), while 11% said they are determined not to vote.
Also, some 59% of respondents said they agree with president Klaus Iohannis calling for a referendum on justice on May 26 alongside the vote for MEPs, while 23.8% said they do not think this was a good idea.
Romanians will be asked the following questions: "Do you agree with banning amnesty and pardon for corruption offences?" and "Do you agree with banning the adoption of emergency decrees on criminal offences, punishment and judicial organisation and with the extension of the right to challenge decrees directly before the Constitutional Court?".
The survey was conducted by INSCOP during April 12-May 3. The sample consisted of 1,050 respondents aged 18 and older and eligible to vote. The margin of error does not exceed 3%.
