March 8 (SeeNews) - Romania is discontinuing the state of alert introduced to limit the spread of the coronavirus disease, and is lifting all related restrictions, the health ministry announced on Tuesday.
As of Wednesday, wearing face masks will no longer be mandatory and green certificates will no longer be required anywhere, health minister Alexandru Rafila said in a televised statement broadcast by Digi24.
However, the ministry recommends that people continue wearing masks in crowded indoor spaces.
The curfew and capacity limits for restaurants, shops and other public venues will all be lifted.
The government first imposed the state of alert to slow the spread of Covid-19 on May 15, 2020.
Romanian authorities reported 5,461 new cases of Covid-19 and 101 deaths over the past 24 hours, bringing the total count to 2.776 million cases and 64,094 deaths.
Romania, population 19.3 million, started vaccination against Covid-19 on December 27, 2020. By Tuesday, 8.074 million people have been fully vaccinated, health ministry data showed.
