March 8 (SeeNews) - Montenegro’s unemployment rate fell to 13.38% at the end of January from 13.95% a month earlier, the country's employment agency said.
The jobless rate was also considerably lower than the 16.30% one registered in January 2023, the employment agency said in a statement on Thursday.
The number of jobless people in Montenegro decreased by 14% on the year to 38,014 at the end of February, the agency said, noting that all unemployment statistics in its statement cover the month of February, apart from the jobless rate which is given for the previous month.
At the end of 2023, the total number of unemployed in Montenegro stood at 39,942, including 23,263 women and 16,679 men.
Earlier this week, the Montenegrin central bank said that the number of employed people in the country totalled 246,449 at end-December, down by a monthly 0.22% but up by an annual 8.5%.
At the end of last year, the largest number of people were employed in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (19.57%), state administration and defence, compulsory social security (9.34%), accommodation and food service activities (9.25%), construction (7.44%), education (7.08%), professional, scientific and technical activities (6.35%), health and social protection (6.15%) and manufacturing industry (6.12%), the central bank noted.
