March 15 (SeeNews) - Moldova's economy expanded by 4.0% in real terms in 2018, mainly on the back of successful performance of the wholesale and retail sector, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
Calculated at current prices, Moldova's gross domestic product (GDP) totalled 190 billion lei ($11 billion/9.7 billion euro) in 2018, the National Bureau of Statistics said in a statement.
In the fourth quarter alone, Moldova's GDP grew by a real 3.9% on the year and by a seasonally-adjusted 1.1% on the quarter, reaching 50.8 billion lei.
GDP growth in 2018 was mainly driven by the sector of wholesale and retail and the sector of maintenance and repair of motor vehicles.
Final household consumption in Moldova expanded by 3.2%, while gross fixed-capital formation increased 3.1% in 2018.
Moldova's economy expanded by 4.5% in real terms in 2017, driven mainly by the agriculture, wholesale and retail sectors.
The country's 2019 budget targets economic growth of 4% and deficit equivalent to 2.7% of the projected GDP.
