October 5 (SeeNews) - Italian state-owned flag carrier, ITA Airways, started regular flights to and from the Bulgarian capital, Sofia Airport operator SOF Connect said on Wednesday.
ITA Airways will fly between Sofia and Rome three times a week, SOF Connect said in a press release. The flights will be on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
"We are delighted to welcome another airline that appreciates the potential of Sofia Airport, both in terms of geographical location and business facilities," Sofia Airport CEO Jesus Caballero said. He added that the airport concessionaire is actively working to achieve one million more seats in the coming months.
Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA) succeeded Alitalia as the country's national airline and has been active since November 2020. It has a fleet of 52 aircraft, which it plans to increase to 78 in 2022 and 105 by the end of 2025, according to its website.
