February 27 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign visitors to Bulgaria went up 4.1% year-on-year in January, reaching 741,267, of which 32.6% were transit trips, the statistical office said on Tuesday.
Visitors from fellow EU member states represented 46.3% of all visits by foreign nationals in January, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a monthly report. Romania was Bulgaria's biggest EU feeder market, accounting for 36.6% of all EU visitors, followed by Greece with 30.9%.
Visits to Bulgaria from other European countries stood at 333,150 last month, of which Turkey made up 48.9%.
Overall, Turkey was the source of the highest number of visitors in the review month, or 162,885, followed by Romania, Greece, North Macedonia, Serbia and Ukraine.
In January, holiday trips and business visits accounted for 35.9% and 13.1% of all international visitors' arrivals, respectively, with rises recorded in all categories of visits monitored.
