March 14 (SeeNews) - The governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), Dimitar Radev, said on Thursday that he has nominated Kristalina Georgieva to continue serving as managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a second term.
"Ms Georgieva has successfully led the institution during the recent challenging and turbulent years and has gained the trust and respect of the Fund’s broader membership," Radev, who is the governor of the IMF for Bulgaria, said in a statement published on the BNB website.
Individuals can be nominated by a fund governor or executive director between March 14 and April 3, the IMF executive board said in a separate statement on Wednesday. The board plans to finalise the selection process for the next managing director by the end of April.
Georgieva has served as IMF managing director and chair of its executive board since October 2019, initially appointed for five years.
