October 25 (SeeNews) - The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has confirmed an outbreak of bird flu on a commercial egg production farm in the town of Debelets, in the northern region of Veliko Tarnovo.
All infected and contact birds will be culled on the farm where around 395,000 hens are reared, the agency said in a statement on Tuesday.
The Food Safety Agency has set up a three-kilometre prevention zone and a ten-kilometre surveillance zone around the farm, it added.
Over the past three weeks, the farm has produced over 8 million eggs, all of which were shipped abroad, Bulgaria's national radio broadcaster BNR said citing the owner of the poultry farm, Kalina Shirokova.
