April 17 (SeeNews) - Serbia's main airport in Belgrade served a record-high 1.609 million passengers in the first quarter of 2024, up 23% on the year, its operator, France's Vinci Airports, said.
“Belgrade airport recorded its highest ever first quarter passenger numbers, as Air Serbia, Wizz Air and Turkish Airlines increased their services to Europe and Turkey, and new routes, including to Lisbon and Porto, were opened,” Vinci Airports said in a statement on Tuesday.
The number of commercial flight movements at Belgrade airport increased by 16% on the year in the first quarter.
In March alone, Belgrade airport's passenger traffic increased 18% on the year, while commercial flight movements rose 9.9%, Vinci Airports added.
In 2023, Belgrade airport welcomed a record 7.948 million passengers, up 42% year-on-year.
Vinci Airports took over the management of the airport in December 2018.
