April 12 (SeeNews) - The Albanian road authority, ARRSH, said on Friday it has opened a tender worth 1.25 billion leks ($13.2 million/12.4 million euro) for the second stage of a nationwide project envisaging the implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) on key transport corridors.
ITS integrates communication, control, and information processing technologies in transportation infrastructure to ensure enforcement of traffic laws, or faster emergency response.
After establishing a national traffic monitoring centre and implementing ITS along 200 kilometres of roads in the first stage, the second stage will concentrate on extending the ITS system to five segments totalling 213.7 kilometres, ARRSH said in a tender notice.
The duration of the second stage of the project is two years.
The project also includes constructing a toll collection system consisting of six stations with three entrances for each direction of movement in the Llogara tunnel near the tourist villages of Dhermi and Palase in southwestern Albania.
Offers must be submitted until May 15.
