The power plant continues its reliable work on producing the electricity for the needs of household consumers and businesses
ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP produced more than 10% of the electricity for the needs of the domestic market for the period January 1 - October 31, 2020. The energy produced is equal to the average consumption of about 980,000 households for the specified time interval. The power plant continues to operate in compliance with the strictest sanitary and restrictive measures that have been introduced in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. On the prenmises of ContourGlobal Maritsa East TPP permanent disinfection is being carried out, additional personal protective equipment is provided to employees and a safe physical distance is observed. "The global COVID-19 pandemic is a new reality that industries must approach with common sense and determination. During these testing months, ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP has contributed to the stability of the country's energy system and has been pursuing its most important goals - reliable capacity, maximum security for the staff and compliance with safety measures. We continue to participate in ensuring the energy security of the country, " said Krassimir Nenov, Executive Director of ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3.
The TPP also took all necessary measures to preserve the health of those involved in the repair campaign, which took place from early July to late September.
The prevention of the four units and the two desulphurization facilities is carried out on an annual basis in order to optimize their capabilities and prepare for the winter season, when traditionally the system is loaded significantly more. In the end of September, ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP successfully passed an annual control audit by SGS related to its health and safety management systems, as well as the environmental management system.
ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 owns and operates the first lignite-fired thermal power plant in Southeast Europe, which operates in full compliance with the highest European standards for occupational safety and environmental protection. The power plant annually produces 10% of the electricity in Bulgaria, using local energy sources and thus contributing to ensuring the energy security and independence of the country.
More than BGN 1.4 billion have been invested in ensuring the TPP’s reliable operation and in environmental protection measures. Shareholders are the international energy company ContourGlobal (73%) and the National Electricity Company (27%).
