June 2 (SeeNews) - US expedition vessel manufacturer Bering Yachts said it is opening a new shipbuilding facility in the Bulgarian coastal city of Burgas.
"Great location on the crossroads of many naval interests and marine passages, rich history and seagoing traditions, wonderful political and economic climate, hardworking people – all this makes the choice of Bulgaria a reasonable one," Bering Yachts said in a statement last week.
The yacht-builder presented a vessel in Burgas in mid-May. It has already recruited 60 staff for the new facility, with plans to increase the headcount to 300 by the end of 2022, Burgas municipal council said in a separate statement, adding the city was chosen over three other potential locations in Europe.
The amount of the investment was not disclosed.
The North Carolina-based company was founded by entrepreneur Alexey Mikhailov in 2007. It designs and builds a range of steel expedition yachts with class leading capabilities, ranging in length from 19 to 55 metres.
Bering Yachts has offices in Monaco, Cyprus and Florida, US as well as a shipyard in Antalya, Turkey, and in China.
