November 2 (SeeNews) - Four countries of Southeast Europe - Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia and Greece - plan to submit joint hosting bids for both the UEFA Euro 2028 championship and FIFA World Cup 2030, Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday.
"For us, this will be a serious incentive to start working on our stadiums and see how we can develop our sports infrastructure," Vucic said in a video file posted on the website of Serbian news agency Tanjug after a meeting of Bulgaria-Greece-Romania-Serbia High-level Cooperation Council in Varna, Bulgaria.
The proposal for joint hosting of the World Cup championship in 2030 was made by Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras and deserves to be discussed, Bulgarian prime minister Boyko Borisov said during a news conference streamed on his official Facebook page.
"We can jointly apply," Borisov said.
Three bids for hosting the 2030 World Cup have been submitted so far - a joint bid from Argentina and Uruguay, a joint bid from Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco, and a bid from the Football Association of England.
