January 24 (SeeNews) - Turkey's marketable output of solid fuels fell on an annual comparison basis in November, as production of lignite decreased by 0.7% to 7.1 million tonnes, and production of hard coal dropped by 2.2% to 100.1 thousand tonnes, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
On a monthly comparison basis, marketable production of lignite was up 0.1% in November, while production of hard coal increased by 0.7%, TurkStat said in a statement.
Marketable production of lignite fell 1.6% on the year to 73.6 million tonnes in the January-November period, whereas production of hard coal increased by 8.2% to 1.1 million tonnes.
Production of coke derived from hard coal fell by 3.4% year-on-year and by 5.7% month-on-month to 364.8 thousand tonnes in November. Turkey produced about 4 million tonnes of coke in the January-November period, down 1.7% year-on-year.
Turkey imported slightly above 4 million tonnes of hard coal in November, up 46.4% year-on-year and 6.8% more compared to October. Hard coal imports fell by 3.6% on the year in the January-November period, to 32.4 million tonnes.
Imports of coke derived from hard coal plunged 67.2% year-on-year in November, to roughly 17 thousand tonnes. In the eleven months through November 2019, imports of hard coal-derived coke decreased by 34.4% year-on-year to 492.9 thousand tonnes.
In November, 54.4% of hard coal was delivered to thermal power plants. Around 87.4% of lignite was delivered to thermal power plants and some 93.3% of coke derived from hard coal was delivered to the iron and steel industry.
