SKOPJE (Macedonia), September 14 (SeeNews) – The number of tourists staying rose by 16.0% year-on-year in the first seven month of 2018, reaching 609,671, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
The number of domestic tourists rose 12.6% year-on-year to 208,771 in the January-July period, whereas the number of international visitors increased 17.8% to 400,900, the statistical office said in a statement.
The number of overnights spent by tourists in Macedonia in the review period grew 16.8% to 1,611,831. Tourist overnights spent by Macedonian citizens rose 12.4% to 782,068, while foreign tourists spent 829,763 overnights, up 21.2%.
In July alone, the number of tourists increased 14.9% on the year to 176,310, while tourist overnights grew 17.8% to 687,976.
Of the total number of foreign tourists who visited Macedonia in July, 25.1% came from Turkey, 9.3% from Serbia and 8.6% from Poland.
