BELGRADE (Serbia), July 31 (SeeNews) – Serbian state-controlled telecom operator Telekom Srbija said on Tuesday it launched a digital wireless data communication Internet of Things (IoT) LoRa network in Belgrade.
The LoRa network enables connection and mutual communication of a large number of different devices and sensors and forms the basis for the development of the IoT ecosystem, Telekom Srbija said in an e-mailed statement.
Telekom Srbija developed the project in partnership with Serbian start-up Bitgear and plans to expand the coverage of the LoRa network to the entire territory of Serbia soon, the telecom operator said.
"We are proud that we created a sensory device with our Bitgear partners, unique in the world, whose application will solve a decennial problem of the company, finally establishing security control over our underground cable infrastructure," the managing director of Telekom Srbija, Predrag Culibrk, said in the statement.
Telekom Srbija is among the first 50 telecom operators globally to install a LoRa network, the company said.
"By working on this project, we have gained a reference for the export of an original domestic solution, so that our product already attracts interest from Europe, South America and Africa," the founder of Bitgear, Dejan Dramicanin, noted.
LoRa uses unlicensed radio spectrum in the Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) bands to enable low power, wide area communication between remote sensors and gateways connected to the network.
