November 15 (SeeNews) - Swiss supplier of connectors and sensors TE Connectivity has inaugurated a new manufacturing plant in Romania's Timisoara, following investment of 6 million euro ($6.8 million).
The new plant spreading on 8,4000 sq m is a long-term investment and will be the group's main production unit in Europe, manufacturing sensors for the medical and automotive industries, TE Connectivity said in a press release.
At a later stage the plant will produce a series of sensors for the aeronautical industry.
"We expect an increase of up to several hundred employees in the next 3-4 years. Operations began in February 2018 and now we have 70 employees," TE Connectivity Romania general manager, Dacian Negrea, said.
TE Connectivity Sensors Solutions Romania will carry out its operations in the new building provided by Belgian developer WDP in Timisoara on the basis of a ten-year tenancy agreement.
"Two years ago we started looking for a starting location in Europe from which to expand. And we chose Timisoara for several reasons. First, for the labour force. Secondly, we have searched for a location that offers a quality business environment. Third, I have to say that we are an engineering-oriented company, and the presence of the polytechnic school in Timisoara was another reason," TE Connectivity vice president of the Sensor Solutions Departmen, John Mitchel, said.
TE Connectivity has 80,000 employees, including over 8,000 engineers, working together with customers in approximately 140 countries.
