September 20 (SeeNews) - Oil and gas exploration company Serinus Energy said on Tuesday it has started drilling of the Moftinu Nord-1 exploration well in Romania.
With success, production from this well will be connected to the Moftinu gas plant, utilising existing plant capacity, Serinus said in a press release.
The Moftinu Nord-1 well will be drilled to a depth of 1,000 m, targeting four prospective hydrocarbon zones located on the northern flank of the Carei Basin, 5 km to the northwest of the Moftinu Gas Plant.
The Moftinu Nord-1 exploration well is seeking to discover further hydrocarbons on the migration path from the Carei Basin source kitchen, testing a different structure type than the recently completed Canar-1 exploration well.
Earlier this month, Serinus announced that it will suspend its exploration programme at the Canar-1 exploration well, as readings show it does not contain sufficient gas resources.
The Moftinu gas field, discovered by Serinus in 2014, is the catalyst for future, self-funded, growth in the Satu Mare concession, the company says. Satu Mare is a 729,000 acre exploration block which is 60% owned and operated by Winstar Satu Mare SRL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Serinus.
