BELGRADE (Serbia), June 23 (SeeNews) – Serbian oil company NIS said on Thursday it opened a representative office in Brussels as part of a strategy to implement EU standards in its operations.
NIS is investing significant resources in aligning its production capacity to EU standards, the company said in a statement quoting its general director Kiril Kravchenko.
NIS said earlier it plans to become an important player on the regional market by 2013, and a leader in the Balkans in terms of production, processing and turnover by 2020.
Novi Sad-based NIS (www.nis.rs), is majority-owned by Russia’s Gazprom Neft. The Serbian government also has a significant stake in the company.
Serbia applied for European Union membership in December 2009, and expects that the bloc will set a date for opening accession talks with the country by the end of the year.
