March 1 (SeeNews) - Serbia’s unemployment rate edged up to 9.1% in the fourth quarter of 2023, from 9.0% in the previous quarter, the statistical office said.
The jobless rate in the fourth quarter, however, fell by 0.3 percentage points compared with the prior-year period, the statistical office said in a statement on Thursday.
In October-December, the lowest unemployment rate of 6.7% was registered in the region of the capital Belgrade, while the highest one, of 11.2%, was recorded in the region of southern and eastern Serbia. The jobless rate in the northern province of Vojvodina stood at 9.2% in the final quarter of 2023.
The employment rate in Serbia increased to 50.5% in the fourth quarter of 2023, from 49.2% a year earlier. It was somewhat lower compared to the 50.7% employment rate registered in the third quarter.
