May 26 (SeeNews) - Serbia has reached an agreement to store up to 500,000 million cubic metres of natural gas in Hungarian facilities, Serbian finance minister Sinisa Mali said.
The storage will be filled by the end of June and Serbia will be allowed to draw up to three million cubic metres of gas per day in October 2022 and March 2023, as well as up to six million cubic metres per day in the period between November 2022 and February 2023, Mali said in a statement on Wednesday.
Serbia can choose whether it will buy the gas from Hungary or from another country.
"This will provide us with stability in energy supply," Mali commented.
Under the current contract with Russia's Gazprom, Serbia pays $270 (253.4 euro) per 1,000 cubic metres of gas. The gas supply contract is set to expire at the end of May.
