November 25 (SeeNews) - Serbia plans to launch an overhaul of the ship locks of the Djerdap 1 hydro power plant at the end of February, a Serbian government official has said.
“The project will be completed by March 2021,” Veljko Kovacevic, an advisor to the minister of infrastructure, said in a video file published by news agency Tanjug on Saturday.

The government plans to finance the project through loans, Kovacevic added.
In January, the Serbian government signed a 27 million euro ($29.7 million) agreement for the overhaul of the ship locks of Djerdap 1 with German company DSD Noell.
The Djerdap hydro power complex, located in the Iron Gate gorge on the Danube river, was built jointly by Serbia and Romania and commissioned in the 1970s. The Serbian part of the complex comprises Djerdap 1 and Djerdap 2 HPPs, which have installed capacity of 1,058 MW and 270 MW, respectively.
