July 4 (SeeNews) - Serbia's government plans to invest 30 million euro ($33.9 million) in the construction of a data centre in Kragujevac, prime minister Ana Brnabic has said.
The project will guarantee the safety of citizens' data and will position Serbia among the most credible investment destinations globally, Brnabic said on Wednesday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the project, according to a government press release.
Construction works will be completed in 12 months, Brnabic said.
The government signed on Wednesday memoranda of understanding (MoU) with Microsoft, Oracle and Banka Postanska Stedionica, which became the first companies to express intentions to store data in the Kragujevac centre, the director of Serbia's IT and e-government agency, Mihajlo Jovanovic, said in the press release.
The data centre will spread on an area of four hectares and will have a few hundred employees, Jovanovic said.
