September 23 (SeeNews) - Serbia plans to complete the eastern section of pan-European Corridor X linking Nis to the Bulgarian border by October 31, the country's infrastructure ministry said.
The contractor, local company, Integral is currently rehabilitating a landslide in front the Bancarevo tunnel and expects to complete the construction of Bancarevo-Crvena Reka section by October 31, the deputy director of state-owned motorway construction company Koridori Srbije, Dusan Puric said on Sunday in a statement by the infrastructure ministry.
"We have completed 75% of the works," Puric said.
The commissioning of this 22.5 km section is of great importance for road safety because drivers on the road from Nis to Pirot and Dimitrovgrad will no longer have to pass through the Sicevo Gorge, the ministry said.
Corridor X will connect Salzburg in Austria to the Greek port of Thessaloniki, passing through Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and North Macedonia. In Serbia, the project includes the Belgrade bypass motorway, as well as two separate sections, linking Nis to Levosoje, near the border with North Macedonia, to the south, and to the border with Bulgaria to the east.
