October 14 (SeeNews) - Serbia has started the construction of a 45 million euro ($49.6 million) factory for manufacturing parts for combat vehicle in Pljakovo, president Aleksandar Vucic said.
The government plans to invest 20 million euro in construction works and 25 million euro in the acqusition of machines for production of parts for combat vehicles like the Lazar and Milos models of state-owned Yugoimport-SDPR, Vucic said in a statement on Saturday.
The factory in southern Serbia will be constructed in three phases, with the first one to be completed by the end of next year and the entire facility to be built by 2022, Vucic said during the groundbreaking ceremony.
The government plans to hire 300 employees at the factory, with 80 of them to be recruited by May 2020, Vucic said.
The factory will be operated by state-owned company Borbeni Slozeni Sistemi (BSS) active in the production of complex combat systems, as well as hunting, sporting and shotgun ammunition.
