March 4 (SeeNews) - Serbia has started building a 16 million euro ($17.3 million) regional science and technology park in the central city of Krusevac, the Serbian government said.
Construction works will cover an area of 10,000 square metres in Krusevac's industrial zone and should be completed in October 2025, prime minister Ana Brnabic, who was present at the opening ceremony, said in a statement on the government's website on Sunday.
The project is part of the government plan Serbia 2027 - Leap into the Future that aims to prepare the country for hosting the international exhibition Belgrade Expo 2027, Brnabic noted.
The Krusevac science and technology park will be located on the site of the former administrative building of Serbian chemical plant Hemijska Industrija (HI) Zupa and will span on 1.6 hectares, including a main building, conference rooms and 39 business modules intended for more than 200 users who work in technology and research companies.
The second stage of the project involves the construction of 14 production modules, each spanning 280 square metres, with a total hall area of approximately 4,000 square metres.
In June 2023, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) signed an 80 million euro loan agreement with Serbia to help it finance the development of new technology parks in the cities of Nis, Cacak, and Krusevac with 70 million euro, and the construction of the Bio 4 tech park in Belgrade with 10 million euro.
