April 3 (SeeNews) - Serbia has confirmed three more deaths from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), bringing the death toll to 31, as the total number of infected people rose to 1,171 as of April 2, the deputy director of the country's public health institute, Darija Kisic Tepavcevic, said.

"Since the latest update, 638 persons have been tested in our country for the virus and 111 of them were positive. Unfortunately, three more people have died as a result of the virus in the last 24 hours," Tepavcevic said in a video file posted on the YouTube channel of public broadcaster RTS on Thursday.

The increase in new cases is not exponential but more can be done to prevent the spread of the disease in the coming days, Tepavcevic added.

Health minister Zlatibor Loncar announced the first case of COVID-19 in Serbia on March 6.
