May 20 (SeeNews) - Serbia has completed the construction of the entire motorway of European transport Corridor X on its territory, the government said.
The motorway project was concluded with the opening of the 26.3 km-long section in the Grdelicka Klisura canyon, which includes two tunnels and 36 bridges, the government said in a statement on Saturday.
The construction of the Corridor X motorway in Serbia was initially scheduled for completion by the end of 2017 but the complexity of works in the Grdelicka Klisura gorge have delayed the project.
The construction of the motorway section through Grdelicka Klisura was financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and was divided into three lots built respectively by three groups of companies - Azvi and Tadei, Trace and Mostovik, and Euro Alliance Tunnels and Road & Bridges.
Corridor X will connect Salzburg in Austria to the Greek port of Thessaloniki, passing through Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia. In Serbia, the project includes the construction of the Belgrade bypass motorway, as well as two separate sections, linking Nis to Levosoje, near the border with Macedonia, to the south, and to the border with Bulgaria to the east.
