April 7 (SeeNews) - Serbia halted traffic on the Novi Sad-Subotica section of the railway line linking Belgrade to Hungary's Budapest due to reconstruction works, state-owned railway company Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije said.
The works on the section started on November 21 but the first stage did not require the suspension of commercial traffic, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
The overhaul will be completed by the end of 2024, the statement read.
The $1.16 billion (1.06 billion euro) reconstruction works contract was awarded to China Railway International (CRI) and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) in 2018.
In March, Serbia launched commercial traffic on the Belgrade-Novi Sad section of the railway to Budapest.
