October 19 (SeeNews) - French building materials group Saint-Gobain said it has reopened its fiberglass mineral wool plant in Ploiesti following a 5 million euro ($5.76 million) investment in upgrades of the production line.
The production line will have a capacity of over 20,000 tonnes per year, Saint Gobain said in a statement on Thursday.
By resuming work at the plant in Ploiesti, Saint-Gobain created 50 new jobs. Company officials estimate the plant will have 170 employees next year.
"The reopening of the plant is part of our development plan in Romania and the broader region of Central and Eastern Europe," Saint-Gobain Construction Products general manager, Ovidiu Pascutiu, said.
At the beginning of 2016, Saint-Gobain suspended indefinitely fiberglass mineral wool production at its plant in Ploiesti due to oversupply.
The fiberglass mineral wool production line was opened in 2007 following a 35 million euro investment, according to data from the company.
Saint Gobain Group operates in 66 countries and has over 170,000 employees. In Romania, the company has some 800 employees working in 10 production sites located in Brasov, Branesti, Calarasi, Ploiesti, Satu-Mare, Tulcea, Turda and Suceava.
