March 6 (SeeNews) - Romania's retail sales increased by a seasonally and working-day adjusted 5.1% year-on-year in January, the national statistical office said on Wednesday.
Adjusted sales of food, beverages and tobacco increased by an annual 2.4% in January, non-food sales rose 9.2% and sales of fuels were up 1.1%, the statistical office, INS, said in a statement.
Based on unadjusted data, retail sales grew by 6.6% on the year in January.
As against the previous month, the adjusted retail turnover volume in January increased by 3.8% due to higher sales of non-food products (+8.1%) and automotive fuel (+1.7%), while sales of food, beverages, and tobacco stood almost flat (+0.1%). The figures do not include trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles.
