March 15 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy output fell by an annual 3% in January, to 1.518 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE), the statistical office said on Friday, citing provisional data.
Romania's energy resources including imports totalled 2.648 million TOE in January, down by 1.5% on the year, INS said in a statement. Imports amounted to 1.12 million TOE, up by an annual 0.7%.
Romania's own electricity output and imports totalled 6.168 TWh in January, up 1% on the year.
Thermal power plants generated some 2 TWh of electricity in January, inching up 0.2% on the year, while the output of hydropower stations fell by an annual 3.8% to 1.518 TWh.
Electricity generation by Cernavoda, Romania’s sole nuclear power plant, inched down by 0.9% to 1.02 TWh in January.
Wind farms generated some 0.85 TWh, down by an annual 19.8%, while solar plants generated almost 1 TWh, up by an annual 77%.
Final electricity consumption rose by an annual 3.2% to 4.51 TWh in January.
Romania’s electricity exports dropped by an annual 7.3% to 1.07 TWh in January, while imports jumped 63.3% on the year to 0.72 TWh.
The country produced 231,700 TOE of crude oil, down 4.7% on the year, and 165,700 TOE of coal, down 8.7%, in January. Natural gas production edged up 0.1% year-on-year, reaching 662,000 TOE.
Romania's energy production fell 0.8% to 17.9 million TOE in 2023.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
