November 19 (SeeNews) - Romania's defence minister Mihai Fifor resigned on Monday, saying he would like to focus rather on work within the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD).
"I made a very serious analysis, and I decided I could help the party more. We need to strengthen the team, prepare major projects, so I asked the prime minister and [PSD leader] Mr. Dragnea to allow me to submit my resignation," Fifor said in a statement broadcast by local Digi 24.
Fifor's statement was made shortly before a meeting of the PSD executive committee.
Fifor is the second minister to resign over a week.
On November 12, EU affairs Victor Negrescu resigned without giving a clear reason.
Two days later, Romania's president Klaus Iohannis endorsed the appointment of George Ciamba as new European affairs minister.
