BUCHAREST (Romania), February 7 (SeeNews) – Romanian railway operator CFR said on Friday it has launched a tender worth 458.9 million lei ($106 million/ 196 million euro), excluding VAT, for the modernization of a section of the railroad linking Bucharest to Giurgiu.

The tender was launched for the acquisition of design and execution services for the upgrade of the first lot of the railway section Bucharest North - Jilava - Giurgiu - Northern Frontier, CFR said in a press release.

The project is part of a bigger one which aims to reopen for railway traffic the bridge over the Arges river between Vidra and Comana communes.

The contract will be financed by non-reimbursable funds under the EU's Large Infrastructure Operational Programme 2014-2020.

The project's design must be ready within 6 months, while the term for the execution of modernisation works is 24 months. The deadline for the submission of offers is March 24.

In December, CFR signed a 11.3 million lei contract with local company Consis Proiect for a feasibility study of a project for an upgrade of the Bucharest North train station.
