September 1 (SeeNews) - Romania's transport minister Sorin Grindeanu and Tulcea county council signed a 180 million lei ($36.9 million/ 37 million euro) contract on Thursday for the modernisation of Danube Delta Airport located 16 km from the city of Tulcea.
The funds will be used for the development of a modern passenger terminal and access to aircraft facilities according to European standards, Grindeanu said in a post on social media.
Works must be completed by December 2023.
The financing for the project will come from EU funds, Romania's state budget and Tulcea county budget.
The Danube Delta Airport in southeastern Romania became operational in 1952 and currently has two terminals for arrivals and departures, an administrative area with a capacity to handle 120 passengers per hour, a meeting room with a capacity of 40 passengers, a VIP area for 20 passengers and a bar, according to its website..
