May 10 (SeeNews) - Renewable energy consultancy OWC said it has completed a feasibility study for a designated offshore wind area in the Black Sea at the request of Romania-based energy company Black Sea Oil & Gas (BSOG).
BSOG is assessing the viability of potential offshore wind concession areas in conjunction with its existing power export corridor, OWC said in a press release on Wednesday.

"We are pleased to be working with OWC to more fully assess the technical potential and commercial viability of Offshore Wind Development in Romania’s Black Sea and the ability to utilise our existing Midia Gas Development (MGD) energy corridor and our existing MGD lands for reception facilities to realise up to 3GW of development for Romania," said Mark Beacom, CEO of BSOG.
In July 2023, BSOG said that along with its local partners in the Midia Gas Development Project, it had started the permitting process of a power corridor spanning 126 km in the Black Sea to connect future offshore wind farms to Romania’s power grid.
Last month, Romania's government adopted the Offshore Wind Energy Bill, aiming to designate wind energy areas and define site concession procedures in early 2025.
In February, the World Bank projected up to 7 GW of offshore wind capacity will be installed in the country by 2035 as part of its Offshore Wind Roadmap Study on Romania.
OWC carried out the feasibility study with backing from its sister company ABL, with both of them being part of London-based global energy and marine engineering consultancy ABL Group. Last month, ABL Group entered Romania by opening an office in the coastal city of Constanta, in order to support the offshore energy and maritime markets in the Black Sea region. ABL Group operates in more than 300 locations worldwide.
Owned by Carlyle International Energy Partners and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, BSOG is an independent energy company targeting the offshore development of gas resources. The company’s portfolio is currently made up of the MGD Project and two production licences, at Ana and Doina gas fields in XV Midia Shallow Concession, Romanian Black Sea, where it is the operator and holds a 70% interest. BSOG operates the concession on behalf of its partners Petro Ventures Resources (20% interest) and Gas Plus Dacia (10% interest).
