June 15 (SeeNews) - The North Macedonia Free Zones Authority (TIDZ), the governmental managing body responsible for developing free economic zones throughout the country, said it plans to launch a high-technology development zone near Skopje, hoping to attract investments of over 850 million euro ($891.9 million) in the next ten years.
The 45-hectare zone is expected to open up to 5,500 jobs, Jovan Despotovski, director of TIDZ, said in a statement on Tuesday.
TIDZ plans to award a concession of up to 25 years to a private partner which will design, build and operate the infrastructure and facilities in the zone. The investment in the project is valued at about 153 million euro over a ten-year period, according to a presentation by TIDZ.
The agreement for the concession is expected to be signed in 2023, TIDZ said.
Currently, TIDZ manages 14 free economic zones throughout the country.
