January 12 (SeeNews) - Montenegro's government will increase the excise duty on cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products as of February 1 in a move to align its taxes with EU standards, local media reported on Friday.
The specific component will be raised to 50.50 euro ($55.25) per 1,000 cigarettes from 49 euro, while the proportional component will remain unchanged, news agency Mina reported, quoting tobacco companies.
Excise duty on smokeless tobacco products will increase to 190 euro from 145 euro.
In the beginning of July, another increase in the excise duty by approximately the same amount is planned, Mina added.
