July 8 (SeeNews) - Holcim said on Friday it has acquired ready-mix concrete producer General Beton Romania for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition is in line with Holcim’s aim to drive profitable growth with innovative building solutions, from ECOPact green concrete to energy-efficient roofing systems, the Swiss-based building materials producer said in a press release.
The transaction will integrate General Beton’s expertise, along with its 160 employees and eight ready-mix concrete plants. General Beton expects 45 million euro ($45.9 million) in net sales for 2022.
"With this acquisition we will further expand the footprint of ECOPact green concrete, the first and most comprehensive sustainable concrete range in Romania. General Beton provides an excellent addition to our strong and diversified ready-mix concrete operations," Holcim head of the Europe Middle East Africa region Miljan Gutovic said.
Holcim Romania will now operate 27 ready-mix concrete facilities, advancing its goal to generate 25% of ready-mix net sales from ECOPact green concrete.
Holcim Romania also operates two cement plants in Campulung and Alesd, a grinding station and a cement terminal in Turda, three aggregates plants, two stations of special binders and three cement terminals in Bucharest, according to its website. At the end of 2021, the company employed 781, data from the finance minsitry showed.
In April 2014, Holcim merged with French cement, construction aggregates, and concrete producer Lafarge. Following the merger, the two companies agreed that the new entity will keep the name Holcim in Romania.
General Beton Romania was founded in 1998. In addition to the production and sale of concrete, the company also offers logistical and laboratory services.
