March 11 (SeeNews) - Slovenian home appliances manufacturer Gorenje [LJE:GRVG] plans to move its entire production of refrigerators to its factory in Serbia's Valjevo as of April 1, the director of the factory, Simon Kumer, said.
Gorenje has invested 4 million euro ($4.5 million euro) in the project, which involves the relocation of the production of about 150,000 units annually to Valjevo, Kumer said in a video file posted on the website of Serbian public broadcaster RTS on Sunday.
Last month, Gorenje said it plans to expand its refrigerator factory in Valjevo through the construction of a new production unit. The company plans to boost the share of products made in Serbia to 26% of its total output by 2020, a two percentage point increase from 2015, it said in December.
The Slovenian company has a total of 2,540 employees in Serbia, including 1,780 in Valjevo, western Serbia. In addition to Valjevo, Gorenje also operates factories in Stara Pazova and Zajecar, in northern Serbia.
