February 11 (SeeNews) - German wind farms developer and operator WPD has expressed interest in investing in Montenegro, the Montenegrin government said on Monday.
WPD wishes to invest in Montenegro and has the know-how to develop successful projects in the country, the director of the company for Europe, Andreas Chollet, was quoted in a press release issued by the Montenegrin government.
Montenegro has the potential to become a wind energy hub and the government will work to identify proper locations for future projects, prime minister Dusko Markovic said during a meeting with Chollet.
In July, the Montenegrin government said Vjetroelektrana Budva, in which WPD holds 80% interest, is offering to build a 75 MW wind farm and invest more than 100 million euro. The government approved the launch of a tender for the long-term concession of a land plot in Brajici locality for the construction and operation of the wind farm.
The German company develops and operates onshore and offshore wind farms, and is actively engaged in 18 countries around the world. In the last 20 years, the company executed projects with a total installed capacity of 4,400 MW provided by 2,180 wind turbines.
