September 12 (SeeNews) - German packaged food producer Mamminger Konserven has opened a 4 million euro ($4.4 million) factory in Zabalj municipality, the government of the northern autonomous province of Vojvodina said.
The factory will have a workforce of 250 employees and will process about a third of the 15,000 tonnes of cucumbers which the German company buys from Serbian producers annually, the provincial government said in a statement on Wednesday.
"After just over a year since the groundbreaking ceremony of the factory, we are pleased to say that we have made a step towards a future where together, with the support of the Serbian and German governments, we will continue to develop and expand," managing director Klaus Herpel said.
Mamminger Konserven is active in the canning of fruits, vegetables, and fruit and vegetable juices, according to data from its corporate website.
