BELGRADE (Serbia), October 3 (SeeNews) – German discount chain Lidl plans to open its first 16 stores in Serbia on October 11, the company said on Wednesday.
The stores will be opened in 12 Serbian cities - Belgrade, Bor, Zrenjanin, Kragujevac, Leskovac, Nis, Novi Sad, Smederevo, Sombor, Subotica, Uzice and Sabac, Lidl said in a statement.
Lidl will keep opening stores across Serbia in November as it plans to continue the expansion of its retail network in the country, the company said.
The German discount chain will have about 1,500 employees in Serbia during the opening of the first 16 stores, it added.
Lidl invested 55 million euro ($63.7 million) in the construction of a logistics complex with a storage capacity of 30,000 pellets and a footprint of 45,000 square metres in Stara Pazova, in northern Serbia.
Lidl, part of Germany's Schwarz-Gruppe, is a global discount supermarket chain, based in Neckarsulm, Germany. The company operates over 10,000 stores in Europe.
