August 8 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign visitors to Bulgaria rose by 52.4% year-on-year in June, reaching 1.13 million, of which some 35% were transit trips, the statistical office said.
Citizens of fellow EU member states were 591,800, which represented a share of 52.3% of all international arrivals in the sixth month of 2022, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a monthly report.
Other European countries accounted for 413,900 foreign visits, or 36.6% of the total figure for June.
Romania was again the source of the largest monthly number of visitors, or 206,100, followed by Turkey with 163,900 and Germany with 94,900. As many as 92,800 citizens of Ukraine arrived in Bulgaria in June, according to NSI data. Neighbouring North Macedonia provided 32,300 visitors.
Holiday trips and business trips accounted for 42.4% and 11.2% of all international visitors' arrivals, respectively, with increases registered across the board in all observed categories of visits.
