March 14 (SeeNews) - The European Commission has asked Serbia to abolish import duties on milk and cheese, local media reported.
“Serbia has not fulfilled its obligations under the EU-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Agreement, as Serbia did not consult the EU in advance of introducing measures and has not presented sufficient justification for the measures,” news outlet N1 quoted the EU's executive arm as saying last week.
The Serbian government introduced in February an import duty of 15 dinars ($0.14/0.13 euro) per litre of milk and 30 dinars per kilogramme of cheese in a bid to protect domestic production from excessive imports.
