LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), February 13 (SeeNews) – The European Investment Bank (EIB) group said on Thursday it has almost tripled its investments in Slovenia to a total of 250 million euro ($272.5 million) last year compared to 2018.
The EIB group investments in 2019 supported Slovenia's economic and social growth, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), job creation, energy security and energy efficiency and infrastructural development, the EU lending arm said in a press release.
The EIB and the European Investment Fund (EIF), both part of the EIB group, significantly increased their investments in Slovenia in 2019, the lender said, adding that the EIB invested 184 million euro (more than two times compared to the previous year), while the EIF invested some 66 million euro (around ten times as much as in 2018).
“EIB results in Slovenia for 2019 are proof of the EIB’s continued commitment to social and economic development of the country,” the EIB vice-president Lilyana Pavlova said. “In 2020, we look forward to seizing more opportunities together with our Slovenian partners in sectors such as climate, innovation, energy and transport.”
To date, EIB lending commitments in Slovenia has reached 6.99 billion euro. The EIB invested in key sectors of the Slovenian economy, including transport, the environment, energy infrastructure, manufacturing and services.
