March 7 (SeeNews) - The European Commission (EC) said it has approved a modification of Romania's state aid scheme for the cogeneration of electricity and heat, expanding it by 362 million euro ($394.3 million) and prolonging it to July 31, 2028.
The scheme, which aims to support the construction of new high-efficiency cogeneration installations, was originally approved in September 2022 and was set to expire on June 30, 2024, the Commission said on Wednesday.
Its initial budget of 390 million euro will be increased to a total of 752 million euro, aiming to assist Romania in further increasing its energy cogeneration capacity by at least 200 MW in the next four years, the Commission added.
