June 19 (SeeNews) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) plans to invest in the development of Montenegro's Tivat and Podgorica airports and in the country's agriculture sector, the lender's vice president Alain Pilloux said.
"We will support the development of the Tivat and Podgorica airports, as well as, of course, the development of road infrastructure including the construction of a motorway to Serbia, as well as the Adriatic-Ionian corridor that will connect Croatia, Montenegro and Albania," Pilloux said in a video file posted on the website of Montenegro's public broadcaster RTCG on Monday.
EBRD will also invest in the country's agricultural sector.
"We will invest a lot of energy into the development of the local agribusiness sector. Especially fruits, vegetables, meat."
The growth of Montenegro's gross domestic product (GDP) is good, inflation is under control, but the unemployment is still high and the EBRD will support the opening of jobs, Pilloux added.
EBRD has invested a total of 562 million euro ($657.9 million) in 58 in the sectors of renewable energy, roads, water supply and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), RTCG said.
Earlier this month, the EBRD appointed Zsuzsanna Hargitai as director for Serbia and the Western Balkans.
